Cabbage
is not a huge favourite with many rabbits and guinea pigs and is another
vegetable that is 'blamed' for being high in calcium in rabbits of guinea pigs
with urinary gravel, grit or stones.
In fact cabbage contains only 35mg calcium and 42mg phosphorous per 100gm which
means not only is the level of these minerals low, the Ca:P ratio is not that
great either.
Cabbage provides 31mg vitamin C per 100gm.
Chinese Cabbage (Pak Choi) on the other hand contains 105mg calcium and 37mg
phosphorous. It provides 45mg vitamin C per 100gm. (3 varieties of Pak Choi are
listed under the Leaf Vegetable category in our our
seed shop.).
Red cabbage also has a good Ca:P ratio with 45mg calcium and 30mg phosphorous
per 100gm and also provides 57mg per 100gm vitamin C.
